That shouldn't be too hard to make a tool to import into the dats, the way they are done you could even not even touch them but only the index, that would be a very clean way to mod.
Anyway if nothing pops up, I will maybe do such a tool in the future but have no time for now o_o |

the file structure and how to extract dats and use them has already been figured out, you can check http://xivmodels.com/ they have it all down to the 3D modeling.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how they did it. I have a program that I obtained through ffevo which allows you to view the files and extract things, but it does not have a way to put them back in to mod them. It is also not organized so it is a pain to go through all the files with the names just being letters and numbers |

You can support it all you want to, but changes like that are not something that will be done any time soon, if ever. I'm guessing the people in that thread don't understand the time and effort it would take to alter the model at this stage. If they did that, they would also have to do the same thing for each and every armor piece in the game so that it fits the updated model. Otherwise it will only result in even greater weirdness, like the butt shrinking when pants are equipped.

1.0 would start lagging a PC/PS3(especially) after you start seeing like 20 people on screen because of the complex models, add in other stuff like graphics and you got top end machines with 40ish people on screen on its knee's.
The model reduction was made so that PS'3 can load more people, and PC's especially can have up to probably 100+ people without too much fo a FPS loss. model changing probably won't be for a while, well complex ones outside of clothes changes, for some time. There is always "expanding" via memory changes, but that causes formations, because of the low quality used... for now. With PS4, hopefully there will be a change though for higher quality! |

So after reread what I posted that seemed pretty bitchy.... sorry lol
WhaI'm trying to get across is that SE is going going to change things. You will have to wait for people to mod the game before you see the changes you want. If you really want to drive this then you should go find those people decrypting the files... making the programs and donare to their cause. Money always mmotivates people to do things lol |

Kinda seems like the most efficient way to apply any real fix would be through an injector much like how in 1.0 we'd have to just to be able to even play it windowed....

Same goes for the character creator? Meaning that if you put a mod it erases after you close the application? I always wondered if someone ever tried using the character creator and turn it into a model viewer to use the mods with. At least something in my opinion.

Ya know, I was always curious if you could just work it through a secondary injector type setup, much like what was used to help window the old 1.0 version. Or would that be too much to work off of? a secondary fileset that would be imposed over the default when the secondary program was up or... eh, might just be talking gibberish with this.

Obviously the unpacking of files is not easy and there are various people making slow efforts towards unpacking the large ass files that make up the entire game.
People are at the point where they can easily de-crypt and unpack files, but not repack. Imagine having a brick wall, and you just took out the cement holding them together, and now you can take them out, but putting a bigger brick back in. ................................................. Some of the main data files are like 1.7GB --- repacking these is god awful. So maybe memory injection is the way to go, but more than likely much harder. (i.e. how would you intercept the loading of a specific dat file from what should be a specific database file and redirect it to your modded file?) Last edited by asdfjkl; 04-23-2014 at 11:40 AM. |
