Default New to Anime

Hi...I am thinking of starting to try and watch some anime. Both the regular SFW stuff and possibly some NSFW stuff. Anyone have any recommendations for me?

Hmm.....LOL....it's tough. I like all kinds really. I do watch a lot of Japanese TV dramas and love a lot of those. But the minute I start to browse for anime I get overwhelmed quickly by the volume of options. I just appreciate a good story for SFW stuff. And if I am going to watch a NSFW...lol...well it better be really hot. XD

Being open to numerous genres is always a good thing. Really does depend on what you're into and whether you can look at older animation styles without thinking "omg this looks ugly CG stuff looks better" or something along those lines. I say that because you have brilliantly funny shows like the Sugoi yo! Masaru-san anime that some have turned away due to its art style.

I'll admit I haven't seen anything anime-related since the second season of Emma, but you could give stuff like RahXephon a try. There's also dark comedy stuff like Welcome to the NHK. Darkish stuff like Requiem from the Darkness (AKA Kousetsu Hyakumonogatari). There's also what a friend of mine called must-see anime like Cowboy Bebop and FLCL.

PS: Can't tell you if it was "hot" or not, but I'll still say Yakin Byoutou is probably the best-developed ero anime I've ever seen. One of the few instances where the games are sort of rubbish (including of M no violet's obsession with the Nanase Ren character) but the anime was actually well done. I'm just not into the stuff portrayed there.

After all the years of watching anime I've grown pickier about what anime I watch now. I usually check http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/
whenever new animes come out and see reviews etc. I also tend to watch like 1-2 eps of new season animes. If it isn't worth my time I drop them. I only saw Kill La Kill because I heard how good it was from reviews, and it was good one from last season.

I loved the Bible Black series and Space Pirate Sara. Both are very nice and and have a lot I can relate to. *purrs deeply and giggles*

Animenewsnetwork is a great place to find new anime. Also you might be interested in manga as well, since many anime started as manga (and still continue there).

You could read manga faster and therefor see what you like and what not, then just take those you like and find the anime for it

If you are starting i would recomend you watching something with comedy to catch you first,in this point the starter would be Slayers,a must see is Shinseiki Evangelion , I foregotted a must see to anime begginers (the first anime i saw) is mazinger z other will be gegege no kitaro those have remakes with better animation the remake of gegege no kitaro was really good, now if you like sports anime a good one would be Eyeshield 21 it has 145 episodes but is good

A good anime is Evangelion but the story is hard to follow in my opinion if new to animes. The other one you will like is Sword Art Onlien in my opinion. Beelzebub is a really good one aswell, High school of the Dead if you want some Fap material <3

I'll recommend what I always do for first timers!

Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in The Shell (original movie no 3D)
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (Its a show)
Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig
Macross Plus (3 movies)
Ninja Scrolls
Princess Mononoke

Then you can bridge out to the new things;
Knights of Sidonia
Last Exile
Steins Gate
Blame!
Full Metal Alchemist

If you liked the top list you can probably get into these too! They're pretty great for the most part with a few things that will make a first time anime person maybe not too into them. Full Metal Alchemist can just get really stupid with "Anime Faces" and really hard to swallow "humor." But its good, legitimately good, the first series and Brotherhood. Though Brotherhood has a terrible starting.

Foooor NSFW... Not that, I would watch them or anything... *cough.*
Words Worth Series
Rance
La Blue Girl
Meruru Sheckle (Mahou Shoujo Meruru)

I would avoid most new stuff as it has some... Really awful fetishes that have creeped into Hentai lately... Not that I would know of course!
