Default When is it time to buy a new refrigerator?

Does it make sense to spend about $400 on replacing the gasket of a 12-year old GE refrigerator? I was excited to think it was an opportunity to upgrade to a sexier model or brand, but the more I looked into the constraints of the space, the more I concluded that I will be spending about $1400 to get a newer version of what I have now. The improvements in energy efficiency are certainly not worth that much! Please talk me into or out of it. Both GE and the appliance store scoff at spending money on repairing a refrigerator this old.

I feel the good question would be what else could you do with that $1000. you would be spending. Also check into scratch & dents models from model homes or other sources. Will the warranty the $400. part & repair ? I have read the a fridge older than 10 years will suck up a lot more electric than the new ones. Yet that doesn't seem to be of your concern. I would go with your 1st gut idea and have it repaired. Appliances aren't that fun to purchase. More of a pain. lol

This is a rather complex question and it is very difficult to answer it if you are not an expert. I can advise you to contact specialists with Appliancerepairinusa they will help you tell whether it is worth repairing your refrigerator or it is better to buy a new one and if it is possible to repair it they will repair it themselves.

Do you use the user manual for your refrigerator? I have an old fridge that has been fed to me without any instructions.

First of all I recommend you to read as much as possible about your model and what disadvantages it has. I used to own Bauknecht fridge for almost 10 years and when it got broken I could understand why so. I couldn't solve the problem and Bauknecht Refrigerators user manuals at http://bauknecht.manymanuals.com/refrigerators were really good additional to fix it. I found out the problem and fixed that immediately and my fridge is still working now.
