Default Lookin for a Laptop

Well my 3.5y/o Compaq laptop decided to die on me so I'm lookin for a new one. Wondering if anyone would have any suggestions. Would be mostly for online gaming (FFXI, WoW, Vanguard, etc.) & eventual school work.
Was looking at the Dell XPS1710, but its pretty pricey (2500-3k+). This is what I got configured so far for $2,778:

1yr Warranty, MS Works/Word, 15month Norton Anti Virus
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB) (or up to 2.33 GHz)
17" UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display w/ True Life (Only Size)
2GB DDR SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive (or 80GB)
8x CD/DVD Burner (or 24x CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS (or 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX)
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition (or Integrated Sound)

I want something that would play the games w/o lag & won't be completely out of date in like 6months. Maybe closer $1800-2200 range if posible. Building my own is out of the question being as computer illiterate as I am :p

Any suggestions of where I might start looking or just live with the more pricey above model?

Check out the apple macbook pro.
Its around 2500, a bit cheaper than what you have there, and you can install windows on it.
My macbook pro is the best computer Ive ever used. :D

Give that a looksie. I've got one set up that runs FFXI w/o lag. Also ran WoW, Lineage II, and Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth. Also has the option for a full keyboard. Nice system with good speed.

<3 Alienware since you can upgrade more than just the Hard Drive.
