Default quick question

Well I'd like to get into .dat modding and I was just wondering if anyone knows how to get .dat files to work with 3DS MAX 9. I'd prefer to use 3DS, since I'm already proficient in it and it has a much more user-friendly interface than VRS. And it doesn't have any bad translations. And it's much more powerfull. >.>

I think there was a way to save as a .mqo file with 3DS max with some plugin. Then you can convert .mqo to .dat with modelviewer.

I think that is the plugin that allows you to view the .mpo in 3DS.

I'll give it a try just to see.
I've been thinking about making a stupid little fps called T.A.R.U. (Tactical Assault Recon Unit or something...made of tarus!) anyways, and since I don't really feel like remaking tarus, getting their .mqo files and converting them to .3ds (or .max...i forget which it is) would be preferred. :P
So you guys know where I might be able to find the plugin?
