The PSP port of FFT came out today. In addition to the original content of the game they added cinematic cutscenes, multiplayer, and 2 new jobs classes, Onion Knight and Dark Knight.

Original Game has an intriguing plot about political strife, betrayal, religious conspiracy, and inner conflict. I'm not good at explaining things but if you like Table-Top Stratagy RPGs, a Final Fantasy story and cute little graphics FFT is a great choice. Valkyrie Profile was made by the same people that did Star Ocean. VP is a game that has you flying around the world collecting souls to fight in battle during the end of the world (for humans and gods), which happens after a set number of days. The game has 3 difficulties, easy, normal and hard, a turn based battle system and many characters to recruit. The only problem is at the end of each chapter you have to send at least one of your characters into the afterlife so they can train for the big war. If you send weaklings, they'll die, if you never send anyone, the gods will be very pissed off at you for not fulfilling your duties as the Valkyrie. And there are consequences.. VP was also ported to the PSP.

Yes this game is by far one of the best ever, not only or the kick ass game play but the story is amazing.

I dont know of many tactical RPG aside from FFT..

And, if you like the side scrollers you can never go wrong with Castlevania STON

Agree with Valkrie Profile and Suikoden, but .....meh, Legend of Dragoon didn't seem that great to me.

However, in -my- flawed opinion, best PS game title of all time.

Vagrant Story.

Its not that bad when you get used to it. A few of my friends felt the same way at first but they all ended up enjoying it.

Legend of Dragoon had a fun combat system, plot was so-so. I liked it overall.

Another vote for Xenogears, highly reccomended.

Crono Cross was good. However, you will only like it if you DO NOT expect it to be a sequal to Chrono Trigger. Pretend its an original game, not a sequal. It makes a poor sequal.

Hmmmmm... another great series a buddy of mine up here at work just reminded me about is the Breath of Fire series. Story line is very good and the gameplay was remarkable for its time. The earlier ones came out on SNES but they carried over onto the PS1. #3 is probaly the most popular one on the PS1.

Oh ya and lol@ chrono cross...

These are in no particular order...
Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy (7, 8, 9, or Tactics), Wild Arms (1 or 2), Alundra (1 or 2), Star Ocean 2, Kartia...
I can't think of any more atm.
Basically everything that already has been said plus a few more.

Have some screenshots of VP.

Sorry, I know it isnt a ps1 game but how does VP 2 compare with the first? I was thinking of picking it up but I have heard mixed things from people.

VP2 is to VP1 what Chrono Cross was to Chrono Trigger. Not as good. Fans waited for a sequel to VP1 for over 5 years then when we finally got it, it was a let down. Don't get me wrong, VP2 is a great game but it lacks in certain aspects compared to VP1 like character development, story, ending, game length and optional content. While VP1 gave somewhat of a background on the characters you recruited, like how they died and who they left behind, VP2 just literally tosses them at you. You recruit new characters by picking up items in dungeons, and the character you get is randomized. Story wise VP2 has about 1/10th the dramatic impact of VP1, and thats the biggest let down in my opinion. While I was playing VP1 I really felt for the characters, because you see how they died, hear their loved ones cry, and best of all you have to explain to them that they're dead and they have a choice, Oblivion or War.

actually i give kudos to VP2 WASNT that good as vp1 but it hell the pretty 3d grapichs made it all + the battle system was a little more challenging the history is kinda inbewteen but telling more would be spoiling the game for you.

FFVI(6).. that's all you need. Even if the menu and reaction times were alot slower then the original SNES game(FF3). Chrono Trigger(again, slower times then the SNES version) Castlevania: SOTN, cant go wrong with this one. Never played valkyrie profile unfortunately.

I really wasn't much of a PS1 fan, but I thought FF8, FF9, and FFT were pretty good. FF Anthology/Chronicles were okay, but SE did a shit job porting them due to the loading time on them. Thankfully they fixed that in FF Origins.

Also, Megaman X4... sadly the last good MMX game, after that they were mostly crap.
