Just copy pasting FFXI from 1 place to another won't do it, you need the registry, theres a post on here jsut recently that asked that somewhere on here! Because I saw it yesterdya somewhere

Best i can say, is to copy all the dat folders which contain dat mods to a new location(much easier then finding the individual files, 2 seconds for the comand, tho maybe 5 minutes for all the copying). Then, reinstall FFXI. The dumb the dat folders back into place on the new install so they overwrite the fresh install files. Unfortunately cause of registry entries & system config / POL config files, cant just make an old install suddenly work, there's more to installing a program then just the files. But this way you wont lose all your dats.

reinstall the game, do the updates, then Copy paste your modded folders into the new FFXI's folders (just over write them)

yeah it was the only thing I could think of too.
but I'm worried about which dat files I need to avoid. if I just copy the "ROM" folder out, will that have any registry files that will muck up a new install also?

It should be fine, when XP tried to reindex the registry data on my PC and i lost all the links to exexcutables I only backed up the Rom folders for FFXI. You should be able to simply copy and paste the Rom folders. Have fun with that, hope it doesnt take you as long as it did me.

some of your links still might be broken. If you have it, use RegistryMechanic.

Out of curiosity... What caused your PC to crash? Was it something like my problem
