Default Server hardware upgrade? :D

Quote:
This, combined with the server hardware upgrade planned to coincide with the release of the Wings of the Goddess expansion, has brought about a marked increase in our servers' capacities.

Their upgrading from DX9 to DX10 (or something, I fail hard at computers, I think those are name names >_>) so the Dancer' dances look right. They said it back in an interview around the time they first announced Dancer/let sneak peak pop up

So does this mean whitegate won't be a living hellhole for lag? Or does this mean they'll move more stuff over so it's server side only?

A server upgrade is exactly that. Just adding another hamster to the wheel. It also means we're going to have a hell of a long server downtime that day as any server work usually requires a few hours.

you need vista to run directx10 so i think they might be trying to make the game more vista compatable, however you spell it
(which is good news for vista users, cuz vista is having a bunch of problems)

if they're upgrading to dx10 it probably means you should be able to turn the graphics up even more when that update comes, if you have dx10 that is
ie cleaner images, better looking weather effects, shadowing, etc.
(basically, it's more than likely gonna be a graphics update)

I thought it was DX7 -> 8 or something like that?

If you need vista to run DX10 doesn't that mean that we won't be able to run the game with Windows XP? =/

So is it possible that now besieged will no longer be a game of "Chase the teleporting mob?"

We can only hope. ; ;

Your computer also has an effect on it, but not as much as servers would. 'Specially since they're overloaded with EVERY besieged.

FFXI currently uses DX8, it is being upgraded to use DX9. Hopefully that will clear up some of the lag problems with BRD songs and AoE BLM spells.

Here is the file that should autoupdate directx to the most current version if anyone is interested.
Edit: Sorry I didint notice a error till I already posted. The website says "The Extension exe is not allowed" sorry to take up space. Is it this website that doesent allow exe files or is there a way around it?

From what I read, and Ill admit Im not the brightest Microsoft has not released a official Directx10 for non-Vista OS, but people have figured out a way to get around it. Here is a decent website and how to do it, Its just moving some files to your windows reg folder. Please note I have NOT tried it, I dont like doing anything to my system folder, but here is the link anyways.
