for now.

torrentspy and ircspy are now closed to anyone living in the USA. TV-links died. And we can't forget suprnova.

I'm sure thepiratebay and isohunt are next in the crosshairs.

ThePirateBay has a long and proud list of large american companies sending angry letters to them. But simply, TPB is immune. In the country they are in, bit torrent files are not illegal since you can't copyright the bittorrent file itself. It's just a small little file that tells you where you can go.

Sweden has ruled the files legal, since the site does not literally host any copyrighted material. And only way to over rule that is to appeal to Sweden's courts (which has been tried and failed) or the European Union courts, which take 5-8 years on an issue like this.

That may all be true about TPB, but I believe torrentspy/ircspy are in the same situation. They're foreign owned and operated. Due to the legal pressure, they have closed service to any and all users with IP's originating from the USA.

www.torrentspy.com

See the message about country restrictions when attempting the search function.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same eventually happened with TPB. I really hope not, but then I didn't expect demonoid to go down either.

Either way, there will *always* be more sites that pop up immediately. (Such as www15.alluc.org immediately emerging when tv-links was shut down recently)

TPB was actually shut down for a brief time a couple years ago due to legal pressure, when they went down several knock-off sites poped up (.net, .au, .cn, .com) because they rose to fill the gap but then the real TPB came back.

Basically enjoy it while it lasts, no matter what about the sites they have to be hosted somwhere and if you put enough pressure on the hosting company they will shut down (which is what killed demonoid) Just because what they may be hosting is not illegal, there is just enough of that is to force action or atleast a threat of action. How many torrent sites have closed Vs how many torrent sites were shut down by their provider?

Before they had gone down both oink and dmeonoid had blocked Canada btw. And many of the other ones Ive come across are blocking Canada too.
