Default DDS problems

I'm having problmes with manipulating dds files. I've been trying to darken the areolas of a npc I'm working on but instead of the changes taking full affect across the entire surace, only a portion of the areolas (mainly the top half) are getting covered with the new coloring. Sometimes I got some wierd cross pattern on them when I attempted to change them, any ideas?

Maybe that .dds is encoded in a wrong hex code? Its never happened to me before, but it has happened to others. I have no clue how to fix a hex code problem, but I think Hadrubient did post a small guide on it about a year ago.

There is a hex editing guide on ffxidats.com as well.

Easiest way to see if there is a hex error is to open the dat in ChangeTex if the product of the dimensions don't equal the Data Size then there is a Hex Error.
