I have never played any job as a Mithra, but I have played FFXI for several years so I will give a quick rundown of what my experience has been.

In general:
Mage jobs - Rarely has a Mithra mage stood out, though many play WHM and SMN.
Support jobs - Its common to see Mithra RDM and BRD (and COR is too new to include). And in general they are pretty good.
Tank jobs - Mithran Tanks are actually very good, and quite common.
Melee jobs - Most Mithras (especially Manthras) choose melee jobs, though most of them aren't that good, but there have been a few that are excelent.

Now to the specifics:
WAR - Haven't seen many, but the few I've seen have been great.
MNK - Same as WAR. Not many, but usually good.
THF - Extremely common. And most of them suck because they don't know how to play it effectively. The few that are good have stood out as some of the best players on my server.
WHM - Common for Mithra, and most are average.
BLM - Not common and most have been average.
RDM - Very common, but usually they are good.
PLD - Rare, but the few I've seen have been the best Paladins I've ever partied with. I really don't know why. As a BLM I've even tried to overnuke and the crab just wouldn't turn away from that Mithra Paladin.
BST - Not too common, and I have no experience with them.
BRD - Very common and almost all of them have been great.
BLU - Only partied with 1 and she was good.
COR - Haven't partied with a COR.
DRK - Rare, and a mixed bag of skill. Some great, some horrible, and few in between.
DRG - Rare, and pretty average.
NIN - Very common, and they should excel, but they've been pretty average.
PUP - Never partied with one.
RNG - Common until recently. They've mostly been good.
SAM - Rare, but usually excelent.
SMN - Common, and usually average.

My suggestion: Choose melee, tank, support, or mage first. Then decide which job within that category. Play what you want, and have fun doing it.

Personally I see you as a BLM and with this face:

In my opinion, Mithra excell at so many things, and what Wenrick said shows alot of it. And mostly depends on the player of course. Im Ninja and Thief, and I have to say I do my job effectively. I even get compliments from my PT sometimes :P I would say, statwise, that Mithra is best suited for NIN or THF. But its definately able to excell in most areas, so I say you should play what you like. ^^

As for a cute name.....

I cant think of any in particular I think sounds nice, but maybe try what I do, Take a japanese name with a suffix. Hence Mia-sama :P Something like that maybe, Ive always liked the sound of japanese names ^^

Mithra that I've seen that truly stood out:

Rng: Lots and lots of good mithra rngs on hades. Second only to elvaan males in population and ability.

Nin: Dime-a-dozen, but are usually pretty decent. Its rare I see a truly pimped mithra nin, but when I do, the xp is always a pleasure.

Blm: Lots of good end-game blms on Hades; competent and powerful.

Brd: 3000 mithra brds, and most are very good.

Smn: more smns than you can shake a stick at, and do their jobs reliably.

Whm: Lots of whms, and mostly good.

Rdm: a billion rdms, and haven't had a bad mithra rdm yet, except for the mp-stringant ones.

Bst: Lots of mithra bsts, and they are generally well-played, especially in ballista.

Thf: the two best thf I know on the server are mithra, with the third a female elvaan, and theforth as an elvaan male. Mithra thfs shred up the compettion, and a trio of them out at miseraux is some of the best xp you can ask for.

You can use the name Cozette. It stands for cute pet; was a little name for my mule. Only job I care to say play would be paladin or warrior. I have a strong hate for mithra blue mage's, to me their casting animation starts off well but the ending thrust sets off the smooth and slow balance of it. Not to mention it feels like it doesn't go well with the concept of curved blades(non thrusting).

yes offtopic: blue mage hume female casting= awesome.

Oh fine.

I think Samurai fits Mithra the best, and I think Face 1, 3, 7 and 8 are the cutest.

I named my Mithra mule "Vernina", but I can generate as many names as you want. I have a whole list created for the Fantasy book I'm writing.

One way to come up with a cute name is to take a common name and switch the vowels or consonants around. An example would be the name "Melanie". Switch the I and N and you get "Melaine" which I think is a pretty name. You can take the name Melinda and switch the I and N to get "Melnida".

Mithra have somewhat similar stats to Hume, except they have higher DEX/AGI than them.

Sad most mithra don't play PLD, I think Face 6A looks sexy in full PLD AF

mithra are better suited for dex centered jobs, drk, sam, nin, rng, thf, etc. since they have high agl an dex it helps them out loads, and on drk, u dont have to invest as much in acc equptment like most elvaan do so u can boost your attk alot

I still say that's a load of BS about the whole DEX thing, maybe at low levels but around endgame I don't think race matters at all.

I agree Race Stats dont matter at mid game 30+ Gear does and knowing your Job

as for Mithras being best suited for Samurai *cough* Not if I have anything to say about it *cough*

no Race is the best at Anything, the player is what decides that.

The only thing that is still affected by race at endgame is hp and mp because gear that gives it doesn't give enough or is to hard to come by.

But being a Samurai or Monk make up for that :D

Munks have the most HP and Samurais are 2nd

galka MNK in full relic armor can have up to 2200 HP i think.. triot has around 2100 and he's missing a piece and wasnt trying for full HP  mithras are nice for the very subtle accuracy and crit hit rate bonus you will get, but average damage will be low, and weapon skill dmg will be even lower. every mithra samurai ive partied with ive so heavily outdamaged it was embarrasing for them. only samurai ive been outdmg'd by was an elvaan with merits... was PTd with a 75 elvaan SAM with osode, shura haidate, all the good stuff... and was still outdamaging... dunno what was up with that... at first i thought race played a big role, then i decided no, its equipment.. but now i really dont know what it is lol seems like it could be a combination of the 2, plus skill, but theres only so much skill can do for you lol

Mithras are the next most balanced race after Humes. They can play pretty much anything effectively. And to those who don't think the stat differences are big at endgame... my Mithra 75WHM/37BLM has more base DEX than my friend's Elvaan 75THF/37NIN. :P But yes, gear can make up the differences.

Mithra's stats in comparison to other races:

HP: tied with Hume for 3rd highest
MP: tied with Hume for 2nd highest
STR: 2nd lowest
DEX: highest
VIT: tied with Taru for lowest
AGI: highest
INT: tied with Hume for 2nd highest
MND: tied with Taru for lowest
CHR: tied with Galka for lowest (wtf SE, sexy catgirls have lower CHR than arrogant racist elves? -_-)

Honestly though, on the CHR issue, Humes, Elvaans, and Tarus are all really close to each other, and Galkas and Mithras are both lower. And... you don't really need a ton of CHR for anything anyway. XD

EDIT: Figured I'd post all the ranks, for any who might be curious. XD

HP: Galka > Elvaan > Hume/Mithra > Taru
MP: Taru > Hume/Mithra > Elvaan > Galka
STR: Elvaan > Galka > Hume > Mithra > Taru
DEX: Mithra > Hume/Taru/Galka > Elvaan
VIT: Galka > Elvaan > Hume > Taru/Mithra
AGI: Mithra > Taru > Hume > Galka > Elvaan
INT: Taru > Hume/Mithra > Galka > Elvaan
MND: Elvaan > Hume/Galka > Taru/Mithra
CHR: Hume/Elvaan/Taru > Mithra/Galka
