So Lich King was the name of the next expansion right? I'm at a loss here. I remember reading about the next one, and the only thing that seemed interesting to me was the ability to customize the appearance of your character. The rest of the content will just be the same grind all over again, with odd-looking new items and more recycled monsters! They should make new gear that isn't so massive and idiotic looking. Then i'd be inclined to level beyond 50, and maybe even come back to the game for one more month!

Guild wars isn't.

You're the one that made the thread. People's opinions are supposed to be posted here, correct? That's the point of a forum, to post about something in order to communicate with other's on the subject, is it not? Well all i did was post my opinion on the game. I don't currently play any MMO's because they're all the same, just in a different package. In the end all you do is grind and grind... Do a few quests, then get stuck in mindless end-game situations. Until they change the recipe of MMO's, I don't think I'll be playing anymore.

Well there are mmo-'s where you can basically jsut sit n chat n do nothing but... eh

when I play a mmo I'd like to feel like I'm "progressing" somewhere. of course with "any" mmo, you can do other things besides grinding all day/night like other people do ... like work on money, professions, exalted every faction, collect every pet ingame and such.

The way the game is played I'd say depends on how "you" want to play it, if you make it a grind-a-thon it will be to you. If you make it a social chat room (like some guy sits n chats in trade 8 hours a day never lvls) then its a chat room.

The player makes the game what they want it to be, not the game for the most part imo

I agree to an extent. While there are generally a few things to do other than level up... Most games do focus primarily on it. You can't do certain things without being a certain level, so you gotta go out and grind to reach that. It makes sense though, that they would hinge primarily on the leveling aspect, since the difference between an RPG and other games is the ability to level up and advance your abilities. So since they are MMORPG's, its only natural for most of the game to be a big grind. Some people like them... i personally liked the way ffxi handled leveling. I know most ppl complain about it, but it's probably my favorite of any. I liked how the mobs were powerful and took time to kill. It's games like WoW, Lineage II, and most other games that bore me... Where you just slay normal mobs left and right mindlessly. The fights in FFXI were fun to me, if you didn't do the right things at the right times, your party could wipe. You can't really take the grind out of an MMORPG though, because then it just becomes an MMO-action/adventure game. It's an unavoidable setback to the genre.

But i digress... I'm sure the Lich King expansion has a lot of cool stuff to please the people who enjoy having the best gear and everything, because it allows them to get new stuff... And new places to grind at >.> But i think WoW should really introduce something more interesting that anyone can participate in. Something other than combat and the likes. They could just add something as simple as a casino... I'd mindlessly blow my gold all day in one personally!

hmmm you mention "if ya don't do the right thing your party can wipe"... thats easy enough to do in wow as much as FFXI...

I mean like...on tiamat fight... one the bosses that requires a decent amount of people... its pretty straight foward fight, you can have a few die/afk and it won't matter.

I know you can do the same with some lv 70-73 "bosses" in wow but, both have'em.

Soorta like Vrtra fight, if anyones slacking it can wipe everyone, like Illidan fight, if anyones slacking... its going to cause a wipe.

Both have their "lazy afk press 1 button" fights and both have their "if 1 person fucks up its a wipe" fights.

Personnaly though, way I see it wow has more of those types of sights since the introduction of Sunwell.

I dn't think FFXI got more then.... maybe 6-7 new "tough" bosses since I left it about 3 years ago ;/ and teh fights considered "hard" in ffxi back then I've seen now... done with what 3-5 people max (even if its long)

Considering fafnir is 5manable, aspi with 2 groups (or even 1 I hear), K behemoth with only a group. Gound kings solo, Tiamat 5man, Kirin 5 man, Sky gods solo etc etc

ffxi/wow etc etc other mmorpg's... all are 1 thing however "skill+button mashing" no matter how you look at it for "progression' its jsut done visually in a different way.

Anyway drailing off into a deep ravine aside! :P

I'm looking foward to wotlk as it changes the playing feild compleatly from raid dps, to pvp... to pve.
Especially since blizz decided to make salv non existant

I believe you misunderstood me. When i said "if ya don't do the right thing your party can wipe" I meant to a normal mob you EXP on. Not bosses... I view bosses in a totally different category. I most certainly never died in a party on WoW fighting one or two mobs that were a good bit in levels ahead of us. That was the difference i was hinting at.

But enough comparing the games, i wasn't intending to ever do that.

I just wish a game would introduce more non-combat activities that allow you to socialize with people still. I don't typically enjoy fighting in games. That's why i typically go the route of a healer or buffer... You don't have to actually fight lol. But still, i think every game out there lacks in content that serves merely to entertain those who don't want to fight stuff for the majority of their play-time. I think a game could draw a lot bigger of a crowd if they introduced things like this, because it would appeal to a whole different type of gamer as well. Not that WoW needs anymore players though xD
