So you don't want to give the makers a little bit of (financial) appreciation for their work??

Anyway to not derail any further, nice Cocao!
I'm pretty jealous.

Speaking as a composer myself, I find that statement distasteful.

If people don't pay money for the soundtracks, they will stop making them.

they get payed by square penix though, dont they? income from record sales is probably a fraction of the money they make from their job

its true i produce music as well i dont do it for money, music isnt meant to be an industry, i do it for the people who might like what i have to bring to the table, i do it as a form of self-improvement, to constantly be learning how to mess with every little knob and setting and know what it does...

btw wenrick what kinda music you produce? lets collab on some shiz 8)

See, the hard part aswell is the price. Over here in Australia there aren't really any shops that sell game soundtracks, 'cept for one that imports them and at their prices, yea... But, let me give you an example of a movie vs. a movie soundtrack

New Movie in Australia = $30
Soundtrack to same movie = $25

So are they seriously trying to tell me that all the acting, visual effects, production work that goes into the movie, etc. is only worth $5 more than the movie itself? If the soundtracks were reasonably priced, yes, I probably would feel obliged to buy them (I don't pirate movies or TV series, if I ever download something it's to find out if it's something I'd be interested in purchasing), but at the prices they charge....

Kayu: You misunderstand. The music will always be in the game. What I meant was that they would stop making CD's of the soundtrack. Which would mean you can only find the music if you played the game. Can't listen to it in your car or iPod.

Chak: I'll be writing the music for the NekoSentai MMO. So mostly classical, but I'd like to learn to make electronica/dance music.

Alizia: I fully agree that they're charging WAY too much for the soundtrack when the price of the movie itself is only a touch more. They don't sell a lot of game music cd's where I am either, so I usually have to import music. My very first was the OSV of Final Fantasy VI (3 in the US). This cost me in the range of $60 after tax. And that was back in 1996. It was the best $60 I ever spent.

theres still converters that convert the .MPQ or .DAT or whatever form its in into a .WAV though, which is easily converted to whatever format you want it in

The game itself I think was $69.99 but it might have been $79.99, I'm not remembering correctly. I played that game so much. Sooo much. Ahh, the nostalgia; to be young again--good times.
