Won't your friend tell you how?
I always thought it's near impossible to do, because of the way everything in FFXI is encrypted.

Sure it was a private server and not a mog house .dat swap?

If you didn't know you are able to swap certain zones with the mog house and wander around them. Not all the zones work but the ones that line up right will work.

Just you probably don't want GMs to catch way in a location you shouldn't be able to reach in the mog house. Also want to be careful were you are when you swap the mog house, if you get stuck in the walls that can be a problem since you won't be able to just warp out or anything.

He's lying his ass off, no offense but there isn't any private servers as far as I know, there's a team trying to make one, but good luck with that.

There's a program out there to try areas offline. don't ask me for the name. Its like model viewer, only that for areas. That's what they used to show the area in the youtube video.

Also you can change your area .dats around, and use POS hack to get into certian areas.

That's how they did it.

The only reason there isn't a private ffxi server = POL. That's why.

Other then that, your friend did one of those 2 things (maybe more..), swaping .dats with moghouse to explore zone, using POS hack, or what this person said.

It's not a private server, people have done this all the time when new zones are added, it's just a dat switch. People just change the dat for their Mog House to say, the chocobo track, zone in, and boom, you're there, kinda.

Yeah, then it's definitely a dat swap. There's a team desperately trying to make a ffxi private server since forever now and it probably will never be done, and your friend claims that he made his own private server just like that. That's just full of shit lol.

If I'm not mistaken, work on that private server was abandoned a long time ago, if they're still working on it, they'll never get it done. Besides, the encryption levels are insane, you need POL to connect, and even if you could manage to reprogram a private server, how could you make the mobs work?

You can't reprogam an A.I. file for a mob of the kind that's behavior and weaknesses are still unknown to us (i.e. Absolute Virtue). Even if a Private server DID exist, it'd be a waste of time.

Switch the .dat files. For example, the mog house in Jeuno is ROM/1/20.DAT and the Chocobo Track is ROM4/5/106.DAT. If you want a full list of area .dat files, I could post it up.

http://projectxi.sourceforge.net/php...opic.php?t=164
Work has resumed on the project, FFXI encryption has been decrypted. Still needs POL to actually connect, but as previously said does allow zoning (though not through walking into it, its done through a text command at present). No private server ever made has been capable of full emulation of monster behavior, spawn rates, skill raising rates, or exp rates. Everything has to be written fresh in many cases (not including AEGIS in the case of RO because it was a leak of official software).
