Default Question for 60+ BLUs (Gulk, I'm looking at you!)

Looking for advice on swords here. I'm currently using a Musketeer Commander's Falchion (DMG:36 Delay:236 Accuracy+3 Attack+6), or 2 of those if subbing NIN. My question is... when do I switch to something else? Nothing else seems to stand out until Dissector and Martial Anelace. :? I had a Leech Scimitar that a friend gave me when he quit, but I sold it so I could afford a Chivalrous Chain and Potent Belt. x.x

I've been wondering that too.

I haven't partied since lv61 and atm I solo'd to 62 +1/2 to find out what I should focus on stat wise.
I notice we get don't get much STR base and accuracy is an issue with our weapons and magic.

I definitely use Wise Wizard's Anelace (DMG: 34 Delay: 226 Attack +14) solo.

Level 65: Ifrit's Blade
Level 72: Dissector

The Demon Killer Kiji that were added in this update are good for solo I've heard.

Hmm, I suppose I could give up 3 accuracy for 3 STR. Guess it's time to go solo Ifrit Prime.

Ifrit's Blade and Dissector are really the only swords worth grabbing on BLU, unless you want the Demon Slayer for soloing, or can get ahold of a Shiva's Shotel. The Martial Anelace is an absolute joke on BLU, don't waste your gil on it.

Leech Scimitar doesn't proc enough to make it worth while. Demon/Devil Slayer in off hand, Dissector in main if soloing Imps, Dissector/Ifrit for Merit PT, Ifrit for /THF, and Light Staff for when main healing/support role.

It's unsure of how much better Shiva's is...but I'd say only place would be in a burn PT where you might end up using Vorpal Blade more often than SCing with Dissector. If you're macro savvy, you could use Shiva's for Vorpal/Savage, then swap in Dissec to finish the chain.

I think shiva shotel would... be best for ... dunno really.... staffs betetr for magic, and unless the higher DMG effects blue magic accuracy .. I'd still og with dissector mainly and ifirits for the +stats

Good to know; I wasn't looking forward to shelling out the gil for that. :3

Hence why the just using Shiva's to WS with. It's a lot slower than the new Kiljis though. Frankly...I still want Seiryu's Sword. Shotel Damage, Marital Analace delay.

Hahah, don't we all. But god forbid, in SE's mind, that'd probably "unbalance" the game, somehow.

my blus only at 30, and it's fun... mind u I am about 10 spells short lol, AND I'm only ever spamming bludgeon

I was trying /thf yesterday and at that lvl I found Helldie worked best, but I'm told screwdrive is best?

but considering helldive WITH sa was only giving about 70 dmg, I'd be better off with /nin there :/

or am I doin it wrong?

EDIT: this took me 15mins to write, because my keyboard reset.. so I hope I get what I want to hear *grumbles*

Melee Blu is like an endgame samurai with a sword
you may not have the necessary stats to back up your spells
Str is a MUST
2 or more str can go a long way to improve damage
dex and acc should follow, go with the one you feel you need more of
attack is the last main stat you need to concern yourself with
when you get into endgame and can, increasing sword skill does wonders as well
I just got my fortitude torque last night and I <3 it

If you equip your gear and spells right you can pump your dmg very high even as /nin
though for 1 hit spells, /thf is gonna outright help most
I've heard that some spells also pull from additional stats, like agi or vit, but i haven't seen solid proof of it myself, but it might explain your damage difference compared to others on spells.

Magical Blu of course is a different ballpark, but still requires stat boosts, mostly to mnd

In reality, a lot of spells pull from a lot of different stats, so pumping Strength is -not- a be all and end all combination for Blue Mage. In fact, a wide variety of spells draw off of DEX, AGI, MND, INT and the like, so before stacking any one particular stat, look at the spell build you plan to be using, find the modifiers for that spell, and use it to up your actual damage. (i.e. HP gear if you're using Heat Breath.). A full blown STR setup will work for some major spells like Cannonball, but you're better off learning how to stack the stats that will actually make a difference in the spells you're casting.

Accuracy is nice to a degree, but frankly, I don't find myself in need of much accuracy gear at all with capped Sword + Merits and capped Blue Magic skill + Merits.

Ridill for BLU? Nothx. It'd totally break the job, and imo there's better uses of a sword slot for a BLU than "Occassionally attacks 2-3 times".

And I was thinking the same, Corr. Holy wtf Necrobump Batman!
